Highlights of 2018

Snow on the birches is a great way to start a new Idaho year,

First Frost
... and some folks say that winter is the coolest season.
Sorry, I just couldn't resist saying that.

Family is a good thing.
Keeping up with the adventures of a couple generations of kids and grandkids is pretty near impossible but it surely is fun trying ... Kids & Grandkids Range Time ... and any day that a dad gets to spend quality time on the range with his daughter is a good day indeed.

Summer
We didn't get to the mountains much this year but it all worked out because it appears that the wildlife has started making house calls.
Backyard Wildlife
We think the fox was hunting for gophers and he's welcome to all he can catch. The old buck (an 11-point) walked right up to the patio and we thought he might invite himself in but he finally just snacked on some crabapple shoots and wandered off. And the squirrels, well, they're everywhere, year 'round. Anyone want to adopt a squirrel or ten?

In June we had a nice visit to the green, green hills of Pennsylvania for a reunion with old school friends and family...
Reunion
... and, as my hometown newspaper social editor used to write, " ... a good time was had by all."

Story Hour is our daily DIY version of Audible...
Story Hour ... and hey, look there in the middle picture. They've invented a Kindle replacement that's made out of paper; no batteries required. What will they think of next?

Birthday
Eighty is just a number, right?

Autumn
In October it was our turn to drive up to the Stanley Basin to make sure the Sawtooth Mountains were still where they're supposed to be.
Sawtooths from Stanley
We're happy to report that they looked OK from the east...

Bill & Shirley Sawtooth Outing
... and from the west as well
Stanley Basin Fence
Everything seemed to be as it should except that fence just outside Stanley maybe could use a little help.

Maples in Gold
Autumn, when the maple trees turn to gold, has to be one of the best times of the year.

Christmas Beagle & Friends
...and now, the poinsettia is in its place by the hutch, there's a tree growing in the living room, and the Christmas beagle is on station on the piano. There's baklava in the cupboard, fruitcake in the fridge, and joy in our souls. Hallelujah! It's Christmas time again,
